Arlington, Virginia – Last week, Republicans in Virginia's 8th district were offered another choice for Congress
as Amit Singh, an intended candidate for Congress, held three campaign events throughout Alexandria. In addition
to Amit Singh, Dianne Kelly and Mark Ellmore are the other two candidates seeking the party's nomination; according
to the website of Virginia's Eighth Congressional District Republican Committee.
"I think people in Virginia's 8th district want a change from some of the big government candidates they have been offered in the past," said Singh. "I believe my philosophy of limited government, personal liberty, and strong national defense will line up with the Republican voters here."
Amit graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and moved to Arlington to work for NASA and the Department of Defense. In 2000, Amit started his own small business, which currently works with the U.S. Intelligence Community and American servicemen on a daily basis.
"I've traveled overseas multiple times and met with soldiers from all branches of the military," said Singh. "Their dedication to their country is truly amazing, and I want to make their job as safe and effective as possible."
On Thursday, March 6, Amit met with members of the Alexandria Republican City Committee and discussed education and parental choice within the district. This was Singh's third event of the week, which also included a meeting with the Alexandria Young Republicans and a gathering of supporters who marched in the Alexandria's St. Patrick's Day Parade.
On Sunday the campaign unveiled its plan for field operations within the 8th district, the "Amit Singh Accessibility Program," or A.S.A.P. Aimed at reaching out to voters in Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church, and Fairfax, the program is a grassroots effort to inform as many people as possible about Singh's position on the issues.
To aid with A.S.A.P., the campaign also announced on Sunday that Steve Bierfeldt, National Field Director for the Leadership Institute has joined the campaign as Campaign Manager. The Leadership Institute is a non-profit organization based out of Arlington, with the stated mission to "identify, recruit, train, and place conservatives in politics, government, and the media."
"I was honored when Amit Singh asked me to join the campaign and put together a plan to reach out to voters in the district about what issues matter to them," Bierfeldt stated. "Amit's conservative values line up with many Republicans in the 8th district, and I'm confident when they learn more about him they will support him in the June 10 primary.
On Friday, March 14, the Amit Singh Campaign will host a joint gathering and fundraiser for those looking to get involved or learn more about the candidate. It will be held at 1021 North Garfield St. in Arlington from 7:00-9:00pm. There is no charge for attendance, though donations to the campaign will be taken.
